Do you have a cool, midcentury front door?

One of our very own housebloggers, Erwin House, has launched a new company, Crestview Doors. David came up with the idea after he searched and searched for a stylish midcentury front door for their new house and couldn't find any that were suitable. He's designing and selling midcentury inspired doors for retro fans. He's creating the initial designs from vintage doors that he has spotted in his own neighborhood. Each design has been named after the streets where the designs were found.

I suggested that we turn to the Houseblogs.net community for some high quality house voyeurism. Do you have any front door eye candy in your neighborhood? Then upload those photos to the Crestview Doors Flickr pool.

It would be interesting to see if there are specific styles that are associated with different areas of the country. And if you find something unusual and spectacular? Who knows...maybe there will be a door design named after YOUR street.

Available as a tab at the top of the home page, Topics will allow readers to surf the content of this site more easily by showing all our content about a specific subject (like kitchens, Victorian houses, or plumbing) all in one place.

As part of launching this new feature, we're also teaming up with the DIY Network cable television channel to feature houseblogs on the topic of log cabin construction. The DIY Network will be writing their own blog as they build a cabin in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains (which a lucky viewer will win, by the way). As part of their "Blog Cabin" promotion, they're featuring the log cabin bloggers who contribute to this site on their own blog sidebar.

For more on log cabins and a link to the DIY Network's blog, visit the Cabins section of Houseblogs.net.

Our member moroccanmaryam writes the houseblog My Marrakesh, documenting her American family's efforts to build a home for themselves in Morocco.

The blog was nominated in the category for Best African or Middle Eastern Weblog. The other blogs in the category look good, so show your support by heading on over to register your vote before the February 2nd deadline.

While you're filling out your ballot, the great folks over at Apartment Therapy also got a nomination for Best Topical Weblog so consider supporting them too. Who knows, maybe we can muster up enough interest so that they'll have a 'best home improvement blog' next year!

The folks at Modern Phoenix are throwing their sleek, contemporary, stylish doors wide in welcome for visitors interested in the mid-century lifestyle. As their invitation states:

Our Progress + Preservation event spotlights the urgent need to practice mid-century modern design preservation while also honoring the independent spirits that create contemporary design in Phoenix. This weekend event will juxtapose local attitudes and approaches toward both Midcentury Modern and Contemporary architecture and design. We'll take the dialogue between past and present to the next level by bringing together a dynamic mix of creative personalities in a variety of stimulating venues. Please join us for this one-of-a-kind event.

What could be better? Spending a dreary March weekend in Phoenix!!! Now that's a trip I could warm up to. (Get it? Warm up? Ah, forget it. It's late and I've had a glass of wine.)
