Greetings! I'm considering using a new product called Tendura Plank on a small covered side entranceway /porch that gets alot of traffic. I'm wondering if anyone has used this product and if so how do you like it? Are you satisfied with the look? The product is backordered so I'm hoping someone out there has some experience with it to share. I currently have a fir porch that is so beat up it doesn't hold paint well. Tendura is like Trex, only with tongue and groove sides.
    Thanks-
    Liz

    Hi Liz -

I researched the heck out of porch flooring options and one of the options that I really wanted to like was Tendura. It looks great and sounds great. But one of the killers for us was all of Tendura's disclaimers about direct sunlight. Unless you have a northern exposure porch, a large roof overhang, or just lot of shade trees, the outer edge of your porch floor probably gets a lot of sunlight at some point during the day. The porch for which we were were considering Tendura is on the south side of the house and, even though it's covered, gets full, blazing hot sun on the outer 3 to 4 feet for most of the day. Given that, I was afraid to go with Tendura.

I would also recommend that you ask your local Tendura dealer if they can give you a list of Tendura installations in your area...ask specifically for ones that have been installed for a couple years. Check 'em out and see for yourself how they're holding up.

Good luck. Porch flooring is always a tough decision.

    Bill

We used Tendura on our porch and have seen warping in less than 2 years time.

Ugh...is it a sun issue, John?

I think so. It is part of a corner that catches AM & afternoon sun, but not super-directly. I'm not sure what to do about it, either.

The original contractor has agreed to come look at the issue and see what might be involved in fixing it. The material may have issues, but these guys have given us great service. I'll post back after they take a look see.

There are specific installation requirements from Tendura, to prevent warping or other problems. Our installation may have violated one or 3 of the suggestions -- avoid direct prolonged dorect sunlight, paint with light colors, have ventalation under the decking.

The original installation contractor is coming over this weekend to start pulling things apart to look & fix; I'll follow up.

I realize that I never answered the original question... We are very pleased with the look of the Tendura. If we can get this warping thing fixed, we'll be 100% happy & no regrets.

So -- the issue was not with the Tendura at all. The warp was caused by a floor joist that was out.

I just removed a 7'x40' Tendura Plank porch we installed 2 years ago. It buckled and warped the first summer. This product should not be for any area that gets exposure to the sun. The only way it may be suitable to use in a southern exposure application would be to gap each board 1/16".

To bad because it is a nice looking material.

we had a tendura deck installed last year, looks great except for the scratches that where made by a delivery guy moving a heavy wooden crate across it,we dont know we are going to repair the damage being that its mostly a composite, still waiting for a company rep to answer my call. i understand that the company was sold to a company called correct deck, just found that out the other day.
