Well, sort of… I was recently interviewed for an article about homes with ”Wow Factor.” Unfortunately, while the story of the discovery of our bungalow was published, there was no mention of our little blog. I can’t [Read More]

Once the scaffolding is up, start by trimming out all the windows and painting the trim. It seems a little backwards, but you'll get a much crisper line between the trim and shingles if you butt the shingles to the already painted trim. W [Read More]

The HardiePlank siding has arrived! To copy the look of the original house, we are installing a water table with lap siding below and shingles above. The HardiePlank Lap Siding is 5/16" thick, comes in 12' lengths, and has about a 6 week [Read More]

Here we have a little one story, two bedroom one bath bungalow. Cute! The plan is to raise it up and build a new first story underneath, remodel the entire house, and blog about the home design, construction, and architecture. T [Read More]

I work at night, so Greg and I usually see each other for a few minutes in the early morning before I hit the hay. When I went to sleep this morning, these stairs did not exist. Greg and John worked all day long building the front porch steps out of [Read More]

Today, Greg & I started tiling our master bath using 1 inch hexagon tiles. We first did a dry run and cut all the tile to fit. Then we popped out white tiles and replaced them with some black ones to make a flower pattern. It was a fun time. Good [Read More]

I haven't updated in a while because things over here have been pretty hectic lately. The pressure is on and we are definitely feeling it. We are also feeling this hot, hot, hot North Carolina heat- almost 100 degrees yesterday. Greg's working non-st [Read More]

Time to relax, cook-out with friends and watch some fireworks at the fairground...eventually. We are still working over here on the house and hope to finish up the front walkway in time to catch some 4th festivities. We are using up the rest of the o [Read More]

Greg's has some shows up in Canada and I am holding down the fort, kind of. I've had a few meltdowns along the way. The plumbers have come and gone- with only a couple walls torn up, one cracked pipe and our tile ripped out of the floor. The good new [Read More]

I decided today that it would be wise to rent some scaffolding as I get more into the details of this paint job. I had Stephanie snap a few photos to demonstrate the nightmare of our west side lot line. Not only there only about 10 feet between h [Read More]

All in all, I’m really happy with where we ended up this week, considering only six days were spent painting…virtually all solo. Unfortunately, I have to go back to work tomorrow, which will slow things tremendously. Other than a hand [Read More]

So much for the uniqueness of our house Today I noticed that a house a mere two blocks away and that I’ve passed by thousands of times is basically the same as ours. Like the other twin, it sits on a flat lot, so it doesn’t give the [Read More]

The sprayer came out today for the foundation and the porch ceiling. The foundation needed to be sprayed, since most of it is an incredibly rough texture that couldn’t possibly be brushed or rolled, and the porch ceiling would have been too m [Read More]

I cannot believe how far the paint goes when you’re brushing. We have used only 2 1/2 gallons to finish nearly 3 sides of our house. Tomorrow I am going to spray the funky textured foundation, so that will probably eat through a lot more pa [Read More]

Sorry – I know most of you are probably looking for an update on the exterior paint, but this was too funny not to share.
