According to this MSNBC article, that gift card your buying for Father's Day may actually be a gift to the retailer. Unused gift cards (which often have expiration dates) over a three year period netted Home Depot $43 million dollars in profit.

What happened to a nice handmade card from your kids? I think it's a ploy by retailers to try to get you to spend tonnes of cash on these "Hallmark" holidays.
