While We're At It...

I always enjoy these stories of house renovations that include moving the whole darn thing to an entirely different place. It always amazes me that it's even possible.

My parents owned a house that was moved from it's original location. Years and years ago brothers decided they just couldn't get close enough, so they moved one big house and butted it up against another existing house. There are pictures of it being pulled along on railroad-type tracks. My parents' had a gambrel roof and cedar shingles. The neighbors' was stucco with exposed timber beams and a very steeply pitched roof. They looked strange together, to say the least. As kids it was great though - there was a door connecting the two basements, so we could run through the two houses without ever setting foot outside. It was an awesome house for hide-and-seek!
