100 Houseblogs! What Next?

Posted by aaron on August 9, 2005 10:10 PM

We've broken past 100 houseblogs today--welcome to our newest members! It's been fun to watch this community grow from pretty humble beginnings about six months ago...

So, where do we go from here? We've bounced around ideas for new site features from time to time, and some of you have voiced your own ideas too.

In that spirit, we're interested in your thoughts. What makes houseblogs.net different than other DIY sites? What would make it better?

Post your thoughts in the comment section. We can't pull off everything, but we're definitely interested in what can continue to make this site and community better...

Congratulations! I knew this day was coming soon...as always, I adore this site and look forward to more features. Thanks for giving us all a place to reassure ourselves that we're not crazy when we're in the midst of renovating madness.

I second the forum / yahoo groups idea. I know there are lots of times that I have a specific question that I'm sure somewhere here could answer :) I'm not sure how much work that would entail, though, so I understand if it's not feasible.

somewhere, sometime I thought I saw a list of all the sites on houseblogs.net...now I can't find it. could you make that more prominent?? (or tell me how to find it??)
I REALLY appreciate you organizing all this. It is FANTASTIC!

Beckie--The list is available via the 'view all' link in the upper-right corner of each page, in the 'featured houseblogs' box.

Becky,
Aaron has also made it so you can sort the list of houseblogs in a few different ways. It's cool!

As for the question at hand, I think this site is so awesome and inspiring. I've already voiced my interest in a forum. We're total newbies who are just trying to make it up as we go along, so I'm trying to think of other things that would help. How about a FAQ or resource library? It could be made up of a series of basic knowledge/how-to articles, referring to houseblogs where appropriate and organized by house system. Maybe these topics could be early threads in the forum: What do you wish you knew before you started? What are the best paint palettes? How did you learn about the architectural style of your house? What tools do you need to start X project? Also, some people need pointers on how to blog. (These pieces could be the basis for a book deal, if well-edited.) We could create a contractor referral list or a not-recommended contractor list. Just a few thoughts for now...

OH! thank you.
I thought the view all meant view all of that featured houseblog.

So, maybe just a search engine for this site. (now I am thinking you may already have one...I just havent found it yet!)
so I could search...paint strip, or fixtures, or install tile,or before and after... that kind of thing.
