Tools-day: Contour Gauge

Posted by aaron on August 9, 2005 11:45 AM

I first learned about this from Scott over at Clark Creek Blog. A contour gauge allows you to trace the exact surface of any edge, then use that tracing to create a second piece following that same edge.

Available in a variety of lengths, but most of the ones I've seen are 10" models. The one pictured here is plastic, but I've seen plenty of steel versions over at Amazon.
