Feature

What's in Your Ultimate Home?

Someone on MetaFilter's Q&A site recently posted a question of interest to DIYers: "What features would you design in to your dream home?" It's a fun question...

The original Ask MetaFilter thread on the topic already has lots of fascinating responses to the topic.

Among the better (or funnier) ones:

  • Secret rooms
  • Radient heating in floors
  • Voice command lighting
  • Laundry chutes and dumbwaiters
  • Urinals in the bathroom

It's definitely worth a read, both for entertainment and inspiration.

Because you have to be a (paid) member of MetaFilter to leave your own comments, feel free to add your own ideas below for other housebloggers to ponder.

I'd put one of those secret doors hidden in a bookcase where you pull a book out and the door opens (perhaps revealing a secret passage to the batcave!)

I've always wanted a secret door. I'm still trying to think of a way to get one in my house somewhere. And I'm daydreaming about radiant heat in the bathroom.

But right now in my house, I'd settle for doors that catch without having to be slammed.

i want a foot lever for the kitchen sink so you don't have to touch the faucet with chicken guts all over your hands. i saw it in one of our canadain house and home mags last year and thought the idea brilliant... but kristin is so right about the doors! lol
