One Year, Two Hundred Houseblogs

Posted by aaron on February 21, 2006 10:28 PM

Hard to believe, but today we passed a milestone: 200 member houseblogs.

February also is the one year anniversary of when we first launched this site.  As of this date last year we had just 22 member sites for a site that was still in 'beta' and had it's own fair share of bugs.

Since then, the number of houseblogs has grown in both number and diversity.  I haven't counted, but bungalows probably don't constitute a majority like they originally did.  We've also gotten members blogging from more locations, including many from outside North America--check them out via the houseblogs map.

Beyond the map, we also were able to introduce a few new features for readers along the way like an improved site design, ProjectTracker, a more robust system for tracking member entries, and of course houseblog search.

In the next year, we're hopeful that the site continues to grow.  We haven't has as much time to tinker with it since our daughter Grace was born last month, but we're expecting we'll have a few more features to share in the coming months.  Nothing to say about that right now, but we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, the best thing about houseblogs.net continues to be the wonderful content that comes from all the individual people that contribute.  Thanks to each of you, and we hope that you get something as personally valuable out of participating as we do from reading about all the great project work out there.  For us this site continues to be a fun way to connect with others with a passion for home improvement, so kudos to every one who keeps it lively.

Thanks, and here's to the next year!

No, thank you both. Your dedication to this site with your busy lives has been incrediable. And thank you for all you do to make the members feel like a community.

As Becky said, no, thank you. The things I've learned from all the houseblogs out there have saved me from a lot of time, money, and grief.

Agreed. To everything. This is an incredible resource, and the work that goes into it--from the site itself to the content of every member site--is appreciated and amazing.
