Winners of the Holiday Sign Contest!

Hurray! The winners have been chosen in the Holiday Sign 2006 Contest by the handsome and talented team of Connor and Ben at Lincoln Sign Company. I don't want to ruin the surprise by listing the winners here...you're just going to have to click through and watch the selection in action!

Congratulations to the lucky winners! (Don't forget to contact Lincoln Sign Company for details about how to receive your prized Holiday Sign!)

If you would like your own carved wood Holiday Sign or you would like to give one as a gift, there is still a little time to get your order in for holiday delivery.

If you would like something more custom, Lincoln Sign Company can do that too. Norm Abrams has one. This Wookie has one. You can have one, too.

Win a Timeless Gift for an Old House Lover

J.D. Iles and the rest of the staff at Lincoln Sign Company is extending a special offer to housebloggers and houseblogs.net readers just in time for the 2006 Holiday Season.

You can enter a drawing between now and October 27th (midnight, Eastern Standard Time) to win one of the really beautiful carved wood signs that they offer at this time of year. You can use it for your own home or as a gift for a loved one. (See the bottom of this post for contest details.)

They will be giving away two signs…one for a houseblogs.net houseblogger and one for a houseblogs.net reader.

This 1-sided sign measures 7.5" high by 12" wide and is made from 1.25" thick Red Cedar. This sign has a 23K gold-leafed border, and white text that will spell out any message you specify. Be it an address number, a family name, or even a holiday wish. All text will be carved and painted white, and they will send you a sketch of the sign before they start carving.

Mounting hardware is included and there are four background colors available: Dark Green, Burgundy, Dark Grey or Brown.

Contest details after the jump!

Contest Details:

Between now and October 27th (midnight, Eastern Standard Time), send an email to

lincolnsign @ lincolnsign .com

with the following text in the subject line:

Show me a (holiday) sign

Winners will be chosen at random by JD's sons, Connor and Ben, on Monday, October 30th. The winner selection will be videoposted on JD's blog, SignsNeverSleep.

Housebloggers from houseblogs.net should include a link to their houseblogs.net profile and to their houseblog in the body of the email to be included in a special drawing for housebloggers only!

• One entry per household, please.

• Only one entry per email address will be considered valid for the drawing.

• Free shipping will be provided for winners from North America.

Lincoln Sign Company has been handcrafting wood signs since 1972. Each sign is custom designed, carved and painted by the six employees in their Lincoln, New Hampshire signmaking studio (which is next to J.D.'s amazing 1863 house). They make commercial, municipal, residential, sandblasted , etched mirror/glass and painted signs .

And if you've ever wondered what a day in the life of a signmaker looks like, wonder no more. It starts at 2:30 a.m.

I don't know the story behind the house that is giving up these windows and, knowing my attachment to old houses, I probably don't want to know.  But, if you are looking for up to 19 historic bungalow stained glass windows...

...for use as windows, wall art or cabinet doors, you might want to contact this seller from Craigslist.  These look beautiful.

Weekend Deals: IKEA Sales Tax Sale

Thanks to Minor Adjustments, I just noticed that IKEA is having a tax weekend event for the next three days. Each store location is offering a discount equal to the local sales tax. Not bad, so I thought I'd share.

(Thanks, Anne!)
