Encarto-Palmcroft Historic Home Tour

Mmmmmm...house voyeurism. If you are lucky enough to be close to Phoenix, Arizona this coming weekend, you can be nosy inside of some of the coolest Mediterranean cottages and villas in the Southwest. The Encarto-Palmcroft Historic Preservation Association’s biennial home tour and street fair will take place on Sunday March 25, 2007.

This year’s tour will feature 12 homes representing the different and unique architectural styles of the late 1920’s and 1930’s. There will also be live music, arts and crafts, food, activities and more. (Hey! A house tour that you can drag the kids to!) Good times...

Progress + Preservation: 3rd Annual Modern Phoenix Home Tour

The folks at Modern Phoenix are throwing their sleek, contemporary, stylish doors wide in welcome for visitors interested in the mid-century lifestyle. As their invitation states:

Our Progress + Preservation event spotlights the urgent need to practice mid-century modern design preservation while also honoring the independent spirits that create contemporary design in Phoenix. This weekend event will juxtapose local attitudes and approaches toward both Midcentury Modern and Contemporary architecture and design. A Common Concern

Given this site focuses on homes, it only seems appropriate to acknowledge everyone without housing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As people return to discover the condition of their property (or face waiting several weeks until they can) our hearts and prayers goes out to them.

The Red Cross is taking donations to help those most in need.

Cincinnati Homearama House Tours

Cincinnati calls their annual home show Homearama, and it's a bit different than other model home tours in that they apparently go strong each time with a theme. This year it's the 2005 Luxary Edition in Long Cove, and it starts today.

A brief excerpt from the Cincinnati Enquirer's coverage...

Gone are the tired transitionals and last year's Arts & Crafts and country homes that evoked the casual comfort and luxury of the past.

For the first time, Homearama homes were required to conform to strict, turn-of-the-century architecture codes. For example, all the homes have carriage-style garage doors.
