Bungalow Inspiration

Heather, a houseblogger from the L.A.-based 1912 Bungalow, has assembled a really lovely collection of bungalow-inspired images on the 1912 Bungalow Flickr account. Definitely worth a look-see!

What else do we know about housebloggers?

What else can we determine about housebloggers from our Member Profiles tag cloud?

If you own a bungalow, you are in luck! At least 65 housebloggers make a bungalow their home.

At least 30 housebloggers live in a Victorian house, in an array of styles.

You like Ranches? We've got ranches. Over 20 ranches.

Are you getting into new construction? Are you an owner-builder? Yup, that's in there.

There are foursquares. There are two-flats. There are 1st timers.

Green building? Eco-friendly living? Solar? Strawbale? Yes, yes, yes and yes.

(more tomorrow...)

(p.s. Are you a houseblogger? Is there an important tag missing from your Profile? Sign in and check out your profile and add the tags that are missing if you want to get to know other housebloggers who can relate to your home improvement pain...

The lovely blue house? It's the Victorian Italianate from Fixer-Upper!

houseblogs.net STATS!

Today, I finished something that I had become obsessed with (when am I NOT obsessed about something?) I entered profile tags for every houseblogger profile in the houseblogs.net registry. I work in Knowledge Management so I get a little energized (ahem) about organizing data.

When I was finished, what did I find? Lots of interesting stuff.

-There are housebloggers in the directory from 4 out of 7 continents...North America, Europe, Africa and Australia. (There are some who aren't represented by a continent proper, like our houseblogger in New Zealand.)

-There are 19 housebloggers in Canada, representing 7 provinces

-There are a whole lot of housebloggers in the United States (I couldn't count them all), representing 41 out of 50 states. (You'll have to look them up by state.)

-Housebloggers in Europe represent 4 countries.

-Housebloggers in Australia represent 3 states.

-Morocco is currently our sole rep from North Africa.

-I couldn't locate at LEAST 14 housebloggers, probably more.

Most popular North American locations according to tags?

-California
-New York
-Illinois
-Washington State

You'll have to double check my work. I had a few hundred houseblogs to comb through and not a lot of time to do this so I'm sure that there are mistakes. If there is a mistake for your own profile, go ahead and edit your profile tags. If it is a mistake in the profile of another houseblogger? Drop me a line at jm (at) houseblogs (dot) net.

(more fun stats tomorrow...)

Enon Hall Responds to Old House Journal

Editor-in-Chief, Gordon Bock, wrote an interesting column about houseblogging in the July/August issue of Old House Journal which kicked up some dust in the houseblogging world. (grin)

In this month's issue, Bill from Enon Hall wrote an extremely thoughtful letter to the editor and it was published! You can read Bill's take on Mr. Bock's column in the Enon Hall forum...

Secret Room Discovered!!!

Oh man. This is my DREAM! To find a secret room in this house or ANY house. 1901 House found a secret room behind a closet. That's too cool...

ADDED: A few of us mentioned in the comments that we've dreamt about such a find in our own houses. Fixer-Upper did some research back in 2005 to decode the meaning of dreams where you discover new rooms in your house.

Two New Houseblogs...from Domino Magazine!

Today we're proud to point out that two new blogs have joined houseblogs.net, both from Domino magazine.

Like all houseblogs, the two new members each focus on the homes of their authors:

Both blogs are now listed in the houseblogs directory and excerpts from their writing will begin showing up in the recent entries list.

As we've said before, we're excited to see professional journalists blogging about their homes. We look forward to their contributions to this site.

Catherine and Thaddeus - welcome! :-)
